March 12, 2019: Midstream Safety Technician

Position Description

The Midstream Safety Technician will be inspecting work areas, construction sites, perform safety training, conduct personnel and third-party training audits, observing employee work habits to ensure that everything is in compliance with OHSA rules and environmental safety guidelines, and make changes to improve the safety of the workplace when necessary.  Identify and submit violations or shortfalls to supervisors.  Assist in corrective actions through training and support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Midstream Safety Technician

  • Review safety programs for designated company or workplace.
  • Stays up to date on state, federal and workplace safety regulations.
  • Run informational meetings for employees regarding proper health and safety habits and procedures at work.
  • Work closely with Supervisors, Foreman’s, and HS&E Director to ensure these procedures are effective.
  • Identifies health and safety hazards.
  • Recommend ways to improve health and safety in the workplace.
  • Writes up reports detailing health, safety and compliance issues.
  • Regular field training, site visits, job project safety audits/scheduled and unscheduled.
  • Regularly audit and oversee 3rd party contractor safety – on the job site.
  • Presents reports and suggestions for improvement to the HS&E Director and managers.
  • Field inquiries from employees about proper safety procedures.
  • Responds to on-site emergencies and accidents.
  • Designated person for initial telephonic reporting as defined for “incident” reporting.
  • Ensure drug testing for those directly involved in a defined incident or accident.
  • Investigates on-the-job accidents and writes up report and communicates with supervisory personnel.
  • Identifies hazards or faults that caused the accident and devises strategic plan to remedy those problems.
  • Assist in complying with the Process Safety Management/ Risk Management programs.
  • Conduct training audits on employees and contractor employees on work sites.
  • Conducts official audits of work areas and offices.
  • Report and investigate pipeline damage incidents to the proper authorities

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Communicate details of safety procedures clearly to employees.
  • Pays close attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates detailed knowledge of OHSA, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), Emergency Plan, PSM, and Railroad Commission guidelines.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
  • Exhibits ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
  • Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the specific tools, machinery, or equipment used in the specific place of work.
  • Exercises caution and alertness at all times.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
